The Woman's Club of Murfreesboro Mission Statement

The Mission Statement of The Woman's Club of Murfreesboro shall be to promote and support community-based philanthropic, educational, literary and scholarship programs; to promote the appreciation of history through restoration and historic preservation of the Baskette/Woman's Club building located within the North Maney Avenue Historic Overlay District in Murfreesboro, Tennessee; and to carry on other charitable and educational activities associated with this statement as allowed by law. 


Chartered on July 22, 1916, The Woman's Club of Murfreesboro dedicates itself to the following: 


  • Preserving the historic Baskette/Woman's Club building built in 1856;
  • Maintaining and preserving the first public lending library in Rutherford County (1887 to 1948); and 
  • Providing educational, literary, philanthropic and scholarship opportunities for its members and the communities.
